Biography
Voivod is a Canadian heavy metal band from Jonquière, Quebec. Formed in 1982, the band originally consisted of vocalist Denis "Snake" Bélanger, guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, and bassist Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault. Over their 44-year career, Voivod has undergone numerous member changes, with Langevin being the only consistent member. Their musical style has evolved from speed metal to a mix of progressive and thrash metal, earning them recognition as pioneers of the "technical thrash metal" sound. To date, Voivod has released sixteen studio albums, one EP, one live album, two compilations, seven demos, and one DVD. The band achieved mainstream success in the late 1980s with their album Nothingface (1989), which peaked at number 114 on the Billboard 200.
