Michel Rivard (French pronunciation: [miʃɛl ʁivaʁ]; born September 27, 1951) is a singer-songwriter and musician from Quebec, born in Montreal. He is a founding member of the band Beau Dommage and is known for writing the famous song "La Complainte du phoque en Alaska" in 1974. He has pursued a solo career since 1977 and has also worked as an actor. His musical style includes pop and chanson, with folk rock influences. Over the years, he has released several albums, including "Méfiez‐vous du grand amour" (1977) and "L’Origine de mes espèces" (2019). Michel Rivard has received several awards, including being named a knight of the Ordre national du Québec in 2005 and winning the Denise-Pelletier Prize in 2021.
